Specialist oil tank manufacturer for India's petroleum storage
Petroleum storage is regulated, hazardous and capital-intensive. Tanks must hold their inventory for 25 years without leakage, fire, vapour loss or settlement. As a specialist oil tank manufacturer, our leadership team has built more than 2,000 storage tanks across India and 8 overseas markets — including a single project of 11 crude oil tanks at 70,000 KL each (1.38 million KL aggregate). That depth of manufacturing and project management is what makes the difference between a tank that just stands and a tank that performs.
HAIL is a single-point petroleum tank contractor: site survey, ring-wall foundation, plate procurement, shop pre-fabrication at our Kalol workshop, field erection (jack-up or jack-down method), shell radiography, hydrotest with phased settlement survey, internal lining, painting and final calibration — under one OISD-compliant safety plan.
Tanks we build for petroleum service
Crude oil tanks
Large-diameter EFR/DDFR tanks up to 110 m diameter for refinery crude storage and crude receipt terminals.
Motor spirit (petrol) tanks
IFR tanks with aluminium honeycomb decks and twin-seal arrangement for vapour control of MS, naphtha and ATF.
HSD & diesel tanks
Cone roof or IFR tanks for high-speed diesel, LDO and other middle distillates. Heated bitumen and FO tanks with steam-coil/internal heating.
ATF & aviation fuel tanks
Stainless-steel and epoxy-lined IFR tanks for ATF service with strict cleanliness, water-draw sumps and microbial control.
Transmix & slop tanks
Smaller capacity (250—1,000 KL) for product changeover, transmix recovery and slop oil at depots.
Fire-water & DM-water tanks
NFPA / TAC fire-water tanks, raw water and DM water storage for refineries and terminals.
Codes & standards
- API 650 — welded steel tanks for oil storage.
- API 620 — low-pressure storage tanks (refrigerated & cryogenic).
- API 653 — in-service tank inspection, repair, alteration & reconstruction.
- OISD-244 / OISD-118 / OISD-117 — Indian petroleum storage installations.
- IS 803 — code of practice for vertical mild-steel cylindrical welded oil tanks.
- NFPA 22 & TAC — fire-water tank standards.

Frequently asked questions
Which petroleum products can HAIL store?
Petrol (MS), HSD, LDO, ATF, kerosene, naphtha, furnace oil, lube oil, bitumen, crude oil and bio-fuels. Tank type, seals, lining and metallurgy are selected to match vapour pressure, temperature and OISD requirements.
Which roof type is best for crude oil storage?
EFR or DDFR for large-diameter crude tanks — they reduce vapour loss, suppress evaporation and provide stability against wind and rainfall over a 25-year service life.
Do you build petrol-pump and depot tanks?
Yes — above-ground and underground tanks with IFR vapour control, dyke wall, fire water and foam systems, metering skids and complete loading/unloading facilities.
What is the difference between EFR, IFR and DDFR?
EFR is an open-top tank with a single floating deck on the liquid surface. IFR is a floating deck inside a fixed-roof tank. DDFR is a buoyant double-deck floating roof — used on very large crude tanks for rigidity and lower seal wear.
Can you build petroleum terminals overseas?
Yes — we delivered IOCL's terminal at Amlekhgunj, Nepal, and tender for terminals across UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Indonesia and Malaysia.
